Genetic Lactose Intolerance
A genetic test assessing two variants associated with inherited lactase non-persistence—the tendency to produce less lactase, the enzyme needed to digest lactose. It can help identify a genetic predisposition to primary lactose intolerance.
What does it check?
- C13910T variant in the MCM6 gene
- G22018A variant in the MCM6 gene
- MCM6 gene variants associated with primary lactase deficiency
Who may benefit?
This test may suit people who regularly develop bloating, abdominal discomfort, wind, diarrhoea or other gastrointestinal symptoms after consuming milk, dairy products or foods containing lactose. It may also be useful where there is a family history of lactose intolerance.

Important information
This test identifies genetic susceptibility and does not diagnose the cause of current symptoms. A negative result does not exclude secondary lactose intolerance caused by another bowel condition, infection or medication. Lactose intolerance is not the same as a milk allergy, and this test does not assess allergy.
