Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly prescription weight loss injection that acts on two appetite-regulating hormones (GIP and GLP-1). It helps reduce hunger and food cravings and, under medical supervision, clinical evidence supports weight reduction of up to 26%.

What is Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is a licensed prescription medicine used to support weight loss and long-term weight management as part of a clinician-led treatment plan.
Active Ingredient
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which helps regulate your appetite and blood sugar levels.
How It Works
It makes you feel fuller sooner, reducing hunger and helping you eat less. It also lowers your blood sugar levels by improving your response to insulin.
Administration
Mounjaro is taken as a convenient once-weekly subcutaneous injection.
Suitability
Mounjaro is suitable for adults with obesity (BMI over 30) or those overweight (BMI over 27) with certain weight-related health conditions.
Effectiveness
Clinical studies have shown significant weight loss, with patients losing up to 26% of their body weight over 84 weeks when combined with lifestyle support.
Side Effects & Safety
Possible side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, and reduced appetite. Starting at 2.5mg and gradual titration helps minimise these.
Mounjaro Dosing Schedule
Mounjaro is taken once weekly. We follow a structured schedule to increase the dose gradually, which helps your body adjust and reduces the likelihood of side effects.
Weeks 1–4
Start with a dose of 2.5mg once a week. This initial dose is designed to help your body gradually adjust to the medication.
Weeks 5–8
Increase the dose to 5mg, taken once weekly. This increase helps to enhance the medication's efficacy while monitoring your tolerance.
Weeks 9–12
Increase the dose again to 7.5mg once weekly. This step depends on how well you've tolerated the previous doses.
Weeks 13–16
Increase the dose to 10mg once weekly. This dose is part of the standard progression aiming for optimal weight loss.
Weeks 17+
Depending on your nurse practitioner's review and how well you've tolerated the 10mg dose, you may increase up to a maximum of 15mg once weekly.
Titration guidance:
This gradual schedule helps minimise side effects by allowing your body to adapt to each dose. Always follow your clinician's instructions and raise any concerns with Matthew Smith (ANP) during your monthly reviews. Not everyone will need to reach the highest dose — your dose is tailored to your individual response, appetite control, and tolerance. You may increase more slowly than every 4 weeks if needed, but doses should not be increased faster than the 4-week guideline.

Weight Loss Commencement Profile
Conducted prior to starting weight management therapy to establish your baseline organ function, screen for underlying metabolic or hormonal factors, and ensure prescribing suitability.
What It Evaluates:
- Liver & Kidney Function: Confirms healthy organ clearance for weight loss medications.
- Full Glycaemic Assessment (HbA1c & Fasting Blood Sugar): Screens for undiagnosed insulin resistance or pre-diabetes.
- Comprehensive Lipid Profile: Evaluates cholesterol markers to track cardiovascular improvements over time.
- Thyroid Function (TSH & Free T4): Rules out underlying thyroid dysfunction that can suppress metabolic rate.
Weight Loss Monitoring Profile
Recommended periodically during active weight loss to track metabolic response, verify nutritional balance, and adjust your treatment parameters with objective clinical data.
Key Monitoring Clinical Benefits:
- Nutritional & Micronutrient Status: Checks key micronutrient and vitamin levels as dietary intake reduces.
- Metabolic Trend Tracking: Measures progress in blood glucose, triglycerides, and liver enzymes during weight reduction.
- Dose Optimisation: Informs decisions on dosage titration to ensure efficacy while minimising unwanted side effects.
- Physician & ANP Oversight: Provides clear objective markers for review by Matthew Smith (ANP) and Dr Iqbal (Medical Director).
