Biomarkers

What does it check?

  • Genetic markers: Selected variants in the INS, ERBB3, PTPN22 and IL2RA genes associated with susceptibility to type 1 diabetes
  • Diabetes-related antibodies: GAD65, IA-2, ZnT8 and insulin antibodies, which can indicate an immune response involving insulin-producing cells
Suitability

Who may benefit?

👥Is this right for you?

This test may suit individuals with a personal or family history suggesting possible type 1 diabetes, where a specialist assessment of genetic susceptibility and autoimmune markers could help guide further investigation or monitoring.

ℹ

Important information

A higher genetic risk does not mean you will definitely develop type 1 diabetes. Antibody findings require clinical interpretation and may need confirmation or further testing.

A negative result does not guarantee that diabetes will never develop. This panel does not assess type 2 diabetes risk or replace blood glucose testing when diabetes is suspected.

If you develop marked thirst, frequent urination or unexplained weight loss, seek urgent advice from your GP or NHS 111 rather than waiting for this test.
